Being in the skincare industry for 4 years and being a skincare junkie for about 15 years, I wanted to write this blog to share the importance of eye cream in your daily skincare routine. Most customers I meet do NOT use an eye cream and don’t know why they should but they ARE using anti-aging products on their face.
First, let me share some little known secrets about aging. The easiest way to tell a woman’s age is by looking at her eyes, her neck and the top of her hands. Of course, this is if she hasn’t had any cosmetic procedures done. Therefore focusing on these areas can help you look younger.
The simplest way to think about skincare in general is hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! You know how when you put moisturizer or lotion on your skin, it feels soft, supple and plump? That’s what you want. You know in the winter when you don’t wear gloves and your hands are dry and cracking and peeling, this is because they are not hydrated. If your skin is not constantly hydrated, it will develop wrinkles faster.
As we age, our skin loses the amount of collagen and elastin it naturally produces so I recommend starting an eye cream in your 20’s or 30’s….even before you see any lines. Prevention is key and with that said, it’s never too late to start!
I’ve heard so many times from clients, “I just put my face moisturizer around my eyes.” That’s a no-no because the skin around the eyes is much thinner and more delicate than any other skin on our body and it needs products specifically formulated for the eyes.
As a young girl I watched my mom take care of her skin daily and one day I asked her when I should start using an eye cream and she said now. I was in my early to mid twenties. That was the best advice I could have gotten because now at 35, people have said I look 20! Sounds crazy, but I’ll take it! Also, I always had dark circles (like a purple-blue color) so eye cream helped me not have to wear makeup and look more refreshed.
Our Sweetwater Labs Underye Remedy is my go to eye cream. It moisturizes, lessens dark circles, softens fine lines and reduces puffiness all in one. Plus it is all natural and works really well. I used to be skeptical that natural products were not as effective, but this is a myth!
The ingredients in Underye Remedy are hand picked to work with the delicate eye area. They are Rosehip oil (boots collagen production, hydrates and reduces fine lines), Frankincense (improves skin’s tone and elasticity), Vitamin E (fights off free radicals on the skin and is anti-inflammatory), Almond Oil (reduces puffiness and dark circles), Licorice Root Extract (brighten skin and is antioxidant rich) and Squalane (reduces wrinkles and reverses UV damage) and Lavender Essential Oil (fights free radicals by being rich in antioxidants).
Another important issue is how to apply eye cream. You will apply a pea sized amount of product on your ring fingers and apply under the eye on the orbital bone. Do not go too close to the eye because you don’t want the product to get in your eyes. Do not pull the skin horizontally, you want to tap lightly with your ring finger. Pulling creates more wrinkles. Then continue tapping around your eyes up until underneath the end of your eyebrow arch. This should be the last step of your skincare routine, before you apply sunblock. Make sure to apply day and night.
You WILL see results with a good eye cream like Undereye Remedy. The trick is consistency and time. Those bags, lines and dark circles didn’t appear overnight!
Here’s to looking younger and feeling younger! Cheers! If you have any questions about any of our products, please contact us today.
