100% Natural Skincare
When it comes to trends, perhaps nothing has been more on the rise in recent years than “natural skin care”. Recent surveys show more than 50% of both female and male consumers in US prefer skincare products that are natural or a natural element BUT interestingly only 23% believe natural products are more effective than synthetic ones.
So this gets one wondering is natural skincare really better? Depending on the brand…yes.
Our Beliefs and Our Products
Our company believes our proprietary blend of natural ingredients is better/more effective than a majority of synthetic skincare products out there. In addition, natural ingredients actually offer benefits to your health, your home, and the environment. The products we use on our skin absorb into our bodies and bloodstreams, and artificial chemicals or other harsh additives could lead to lasting health repercussions.
We believe in cultivating ingredients from nature. We hand pick the most potent and highest quality ingredients we can find to give you results! We know we don't need to use chemicals to be effective and we think our customer reviews prove that.
The Chemist
Nadia, the founder and chemist of all of our products, has had sensitive skin most of her life. We say “had” because after formulating and using our products her rosacea no longer flares up. She began reacting to store bought brands with redness, rosacea and dry skin and as a nature lover decided to use natural ingredients to create products for herself.
She gave some to family and friends to try and they kept asking for more. That is how Sweetwater Labs began. All of our products are formulated for use for even the most sensitive skin.
Parabens, synthetic fragrances and other chemical ingredients can cause skin sensitivities or even cancer. Allergens and hormone disruptors are amongst some of the most commonly used ingredients.
No Animal Testing
We love animals! None of our products are tested on animals. Our products also last longer because we don't use fillers, therefore the product is more potent so you need less. Only ingredients that are necessary are in our bottles! We encourage you to read the label on your products of anything you ingest or apply topically. If you need a translator for most of the ingredients that is a bad sign. Plus, we won't know the long-term effects these ingredients will have on you.
Natural ingredients are also environmentally friendly because there are no chemicals going into our air and water systems.
Artificial fragrances are designed to cover up the smell of other chemicals used in traditional beauty products. In this case you have a chemical to cover up another chemical, and all those chemical smells can cause headaches in many people. Natural beauty products scented with natural essential oils can even provide aromatherapy benefits, like our Essential Oil Roll-On perfumes.
FAQs
When we say “natural” we mean made from nature. We believe in using resources from nature, especially for what we put on our skin. Our skin is your largest organ of the body and we want to limit chemical absorption into our bloodstream as much as possible.
We are concerned first and foremost with quality. We source from all over the world and only choose the best ingredients to formulate our products with.
Our best seller is our VitaminFace Serum. Our customers swear by it! This is a very special product because it has the highest percentage of Hyaluronic Acid on the market, that we know of, which is 60%. Other well-known products contain a maximum of 2% in their formulations. Hyaluronic Acid holds 1000 times its weight in water which means it will plump your skin and keep it soft and supple.
Hyaluronic Acid is a naturally occurring molecule found throughout almost every fluid and tissue in our bodies, primarily in the skin, eyes, and joints. Approximately 50% of the total Hyaluronic Acid resides in the skin. Hyaluronic Acid is crucial to the moisture and elasticity of our skin. Unfortunately, as we age, the concentration of Hyaluronic Acid decreases year after year.
The VitaminFace Serum can be used day and evening and can be mixed with or layered on top of our Rose Face Oil or Sunshine Serum. Our VitaminFace Serum also has Vitamin C but a special version of Vitamin C.
Almost all other Vitamin C serums contain ascorbic acid version of Vitamin C, which has limited availability to help prevent free radicals (free radicals speed up break down on skin structure), is very acidic, which can irritate skin and also breaks down rapidly so it loses potency quickly.
Our serum contains Vitamin C ester (powerful molecule in fight against skin aging), a much more stable compound (ie. it doesn't break down fast), is less irritating to skin and maintains potency over a longer period of time.
This ingredient can be absorbed into skin much easier than ascorbic acid version so skin reaps more benefits of the Vitamin C. Vitamin C Ester is about as close as you can get to a perfect "skin vitamin."
Other ingredients are squalane (antioxidant, seals moisture and helps with acne and eczema), pure aloe, jojoba oil, VitaminE (for anti-aging and antioxidant properties), propolis for healing, lavender oil to calm skin and leucidal (a natural preservative to extend life of organic products). Reduces sun damage, promotes collagen and evens skin tone.
Our products expire up to 18 months. Our Vitamin Face Serum and the Detox Clay Mask are the only products we have that we recommend to keep refrigerated because it keeps the product fresher for a longer period of time. Refrigeration is not necessary but we recommend it or keep it in a cool, dry place.
Our products are generally safe for pregnancy but please consult your physician if you have any concerns.
Cleansing, toning, moisturizing should be done twice a day. Under eye serum 1-2 per day. Exfoliating and masks can be done 1-3 times per week depending on your skin type and strength of product.
Step 1 Wash your face with a gentle cleanser depending on your skin type (oily, combo, sensitive/dry) or makeup remover.
Step 2 is toner. Toners have many different purposes. They can be hydrating, calming and soothing, help tighten pores + exfoliate but they can also remove any excess makeup or residue left from cleansers. Many people skip this step but this is important to the regime as it helps leave the skin squeaky clean.
Step 3 is moisturizer which can be an oil, cream or serum. The consistency does not matter but we prefer serums or oils as they tend to mimic more than skin’s natural oils. This step is important, even if you have oily skin!
Hydrating the skin slows down aging and helps balance the skin so it doesn't become too dry or produce too much oil, which could then create even more skin concerns. Moisturizing leaves the skin balanced.
Step 4 is Eye serum or cream. Many people skip this step too, but the first signs of aging can be seen around your eyes, neck and tops of your hands so keep them hydrated!
Sunscreen is the last step when applying in the morning. And remember to reapply every 90 minutes. This is one of the best ways to prevent premature aging.
Step 5 are MASKS! I would say majority of the population doesn’t use masks but they are very important to keeping your skin healthy. Your skin is constantly renewing on a 21-day cycle so you need to use masks to declog, exfoliate and renew the new layers underneath for a healthy glow.
Detox Clay Mask is amazing to declog skin as it helps pulls toxins out of your skin . Spot treatment with the mask on trouble acne areas is a miracle worker for blemishes. Many people say their blemishes decrease overnight! For exfoliating and renewing skin our Glycolic Rosewater Mask (can leave thin layer on overnight or just 20 minutes in a rush) will gently get rid of dull, dead skin.
We get this question all the time, especially from men who want to take care of their skin but want something simple and fast. Cleanser, moisturizer and spf are the minimum products we highly recommend you use. Cleanser and moisturizer should be applied day and night and spf only during the day.
All of our ingredients are listed on our website and on each bottle.
Our products work for all skin types including dry, combination, oily and sensitive. Our products balance the pH of your skin which is very important. Some signs that skin's pH is out of balance can include acne, dryness, and conditions like psoriasis. If your skin is too alkaline skin symptoms can include dryness and accelerated aging, like an increase in fine lines and wrinkles. If you have a decrease in pH and it becomes more acidic, skin can become inflamed. Check out customer testimonials here.
Oily skin produces an excess sebum that causes the skin to appear shiny and feel greasy—especially throughout the T-Zone (forehead, nose and chin). If you have oily skin, you may be more likely to have enlarged pores and develop acne.
If your skin tends to be dry and flaky you have dry skin, Dry skin is dull and may become rough, flaky or even scaly. It feels tight or less elastic and may be prone to showing more visible lines. In addition, it may become itchy or irritated.
Normal skin is balanced. It is neither dry nor oily. It is not prone to breakouts, flakiness, feeling slick or tight. Pores are small, the texture is smooth, and it is less likely to be prone to sensitivity or blemishes.
If you are oily in your t-zone (your forehead, nose and chin) and dry or normal on your cheeks then you have combination skin.
Many people believe they need to remove all of the oils from their skin. This is not true as the natural oils are good for the skin. If the skin is producing too much oil, you are probably not using the right products to balance the pH of your skin or you are not following a proper skin care regimen. Try to avoid over-drying the skin with harsh or astringent products. By over stripping the skin's natural oils it will only trigger more oil production and lead to even oilier skin.
All of our products balance the natural pH of your skin. Skin issues like eczema, redness, dry patches, acne, oiliness, psoriasis, and premature signs of aging all indicate that your skin’s pH is off-balance. That means your skin’s barrier is damaged, and its exposure to the elements exacerbates everything from dry skin to clogged pores.
If your skin is off-balance you've probably been scrubbing too aggressively, using too much hot water, and using harsh cleansers or over exfoliating.
Our Revive Glycolic and Salicylic Acid Face Cleanser and Glycolic Scrub Wash are perfect for oily skin. Our Rose Face Oil or VitaminFace Serum are great for oily skin, and all skin types. Our Ricewater Toner is excellent for oily skin. The Rose Face Oil is especially great because one drop is enough to moisturize your skin and leave it matte. Either Papaya Face Glow or Revive Glycolic and Rosewater Mask are excellent exfoliators for oily skin.
Some people with combination skin like to use different products on different areas of their face and others like to use one product, the choice is up to you and might require some trial and error. You can use our hydrating Pura Vida Cleanser on your dry areas and our Revive Glycolic and Salicylic Acid Face Cleanser or Glycolic Scrub Wash on your oily areas. You can use our Rose Face Oil on your entire face and add extra on your dry areas or you can use our VitaminFace Serum on your entire face and layer our Rose Face Oil on your drier areas. Or you can use one cleanser and moisturizer in the morning and one at night.
None of our products are tested on animals. We LOVE animals!
We almost never have clients react to our products. We cannot guarantee that you will not react as everyone's skin is different and reacts differently to different products. Nadia created everything for her own skin, which is very sensitive. Since all of our products are made for sensitive skin it means they are made with super nourishing and calming ingredients. Please let us know any allergies you might have so we can direct you to the best options for you. ALL our products are guaranteed so if you ever have any issues please contact us.
We send various samples to clients with their purchases. We love for you to try as many products for your skin type as possible and we love to hear your feedback. Another great way to try products is to try some of our many mini sized packages. Many are created for skin type or concern and some are for you to try our greatest hits.
Your skin naturally sheds dead skin cells to make room for new cells every 21 days or so. As we age this process happens less often so we need to remove the dead skin cells ourselves. Everyone needs to scrub, or exfoliate their skin. If we do not exfoliate our skin, the dead, dry skin cells sit on the surface of our skin and creates a barrier. Your products cannot effectively be absorbed through this barrier so even if you are using the most expensive creams in the world but not exfoliating, they are not performing optimally. When you don't exfoliate your pores get clogged and can create breakouts and your skin looks dull, dry and flaky.
There are two types of ways to exfoliate, manual and physical exfoliants. Manually means you would manually rub an exfoliant (or scrub) on your skin to remove dead skin cells. Physical exfoliants or Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA's) are a group of water-soluble acids typically derived from sugary fruits. Popular AHAs include glycolic acid, which comes from sugar cane, lactic acid, which is found in milk and pickled vegetables, citric acid, found in citrus fruits, tartaric acid, from grapes and malic acid, found in apples. These acids help peel away the surface of your skin so that new, more evenly pigmented skin cells generate. AHAs also help with mild hyperpigmentation like age spots, melasma, scars, enlarged pores, fine lines and surface wrinkles and uneven skin tone.
Beta Hydroxy Acids or BHA's are oil-soluble. These acids go deep into your hair follicles to dry out excess oils and dead skin cells to unclog your pores. BHA products are primarily used to treat acne and sun damage. Salicylic acid is the most common BHA. It’s well known as an acne treatment, but it can also help calm general redness and inflammation.
We create all of our products for sensitive skin. Nadia, the founder and chemist, had very sensitive skin and began Sweetwater Labs because store bought products would exacerbate her rosacea. Nadia tests everything on herself and it has to pass her test before being an official product. If you have eczema or rosacea, Rescue me is the perfect treatment for that. Even our exfoliants, Papaya Face Glow and Revive Glycolic and Rosewater Mask are gentle enough for sensitive skin. Pura Vida is a hydrating, creamy cleanser that smooths skin.
We even have great products if your skin on your body is dry. Pink Beach is a body exfoliant with sugar, csalt and collagen. Cloud Soap is a creamy cleanser that leaves you hydrated with coconut oil and essential oils. Our Miracle Healing Salve is a luxurious shea butter hydrator for the body or face. Our Fleur Body Oil is a great fina touch for keeping you hydrated from head to toe.
Rescue is a must have for eczema, rosacea or any skin irritations. Rescue me is perfect for calming and relieving itching.
Yes, most of our products have many anti aging ingredients. Anti-aging is a main focus of our products and also to keep your skin healthy. To us, healthy means clear, bright, hydrated and glowing. Our products can transform your skin to the point where you don't have to wear as much makeup or any at all.
Our best products for anti aging are VitaminFace Serum, Rose Face Oil, Bloom, Revive Glycolic Cleanser, Revive Glycolic and Rosewater Mask, Papaya Face Glow, Glycolic Scrub Wash, Undereye Remedy, Rosewater Toner, Ricewater Toner and Sunshine Serum. Our favorite anti aging ingredients are hyaluronic acid, rose oil, retinol, Japanese stem cells, collagen, glycolic acid and rice water.
We have a customer favorite package for dry skin called Dry Skin Saviors. This is perfect to hydrate from head to toe.
Exfoliating is key to helping dull skin become revived and glowing. Papaya Face Glow and Revive Glycolic and Rosewater Mask are amazing exfoliators to remove dead skin cells and reveal the new, bright glowing skin underneath. Also our Detox Clay Mask is amazing for cmbo to problem skin (you can also spot treat blemishes overnight make them disappear like magic). Bloom Night Serum will help create smooth skin and tighten pores and Sunshine Serum will help even skin tone and brighten skin.
Our detox clay mask is a customer favorite for acne! Volcanic Ash Clay binds to toxins and removes them from the skin. It helps unclog, shrink pores and prevent overproduction of sebum (which encourages production of bacteria in skin). It can be used as a full face treatment or as a spot treatment overnight. Our rose face oil is great for acne prone skin as it is antibacterial and anti inflammatory. Also, it does not clog pores. You just need one drop for oily skin. One drop is enough to moisturize but it also balances your skin and leaves it mattified. For dry or combination skin you can apply two or more drops.
Exfoliators are necessary to keep acne at bay because they remove dead skin cells, oil and dirt from pores. Papaya Face Glow is a great scrub which leaves your skin hydrated, not tight and dry like other scrubs. Our Revive Glycolic and Rosewater Mask is also great and easy to use. Just apply after cleansing and leave for 15-20 minutes. They will both leave your skin soft, smooth and glowing. Just remember to not scrub on any active blemishes because you can irritate the pimple and spread the bacteria around your face.
Revive Glycolic Cleanser is also a great daily cleanser to gently exfoliate the skin helping prevent acne. Also, Glycolic Scrub Wash with exfoliating jojoba beads (Nadia’s favorite cleanser) is a great daily cleanser that gently exfoliates to keep your skin clean and clear. It can also be used for body acne.
All of our products are made for men and women and we realize that men might not want to smell like roses! We have a great natural face oil for men called Scruff Tonic. Our 100% natural, unique formulation beard / scruff oil works extremely well to keep facial hair healthy + skin moisturized and smooth. Crisp, clean, subtle scent is fresh = woodsy + citrus from a combination of Bay Leaf Oil, Cedarwood, Bergamot and Fir Pine Oils. Our Scruff Tonic doubles as a face moisturizer and beard moisturizer. and will leave your skin moisturized and smooth.
Our Glycolic Scrub Wash is excellent for the face, but was also made to be used on body acne. It will gently cleanse and exfoliate. Glycolic acid promotes active skin renewal, evens out discoloration and gives skin that extra glow while salicylic acid provides skin clarity. Plant extracts (tiger grass, aloe, lemon peel, lavender, tea tree oil) nourish skin and diminish scarring.
We do not use harmful plastic microbeads. Most other scrubs have environmentally harmful microbeads that can be destructive to marine life. Our scrub contains natural biodegradable jojoba beads to gently exfoliate and are friendly to the planet. Use once a week for dry skin, 2-4x week for combination skin, 4-5x for oily skin.
You can also use Papaya Face Glow on your body. We definitely recommend using it in the shower as it can be a little messy.
You can also use our Revive Glycolic and Rosewater Mask on your body to exfoliate after cleansing. This you would apply outside of the shower and leave on for 15-20 minutes then rinse off. Our Detox Clay Mask is also a deep cleansing treatment that heals breakouts quickly and shrinks pores.
